Classes are designed to meet the varying needs of all ages, from toddlers to adults.
PETITE BALLERINA (2 years old)– Innovative program designed to meet the special dance training needs of two year olds. Introduction to basic ballet movements and music. All introduced in a playful, fun, nurturing environment. Puppets, bubbles, and age appropriate toys are utilized to enhance the learning experience.
PRE BALLET (3 years old) – Designed to help develop cognitive, listening and gross motor skills. Age appropriate basic ballet movements and improvisation are applied.
BALLET/TAP COMBO - level I: ages 3-4; level 2: ages 4-5. This fun, energetic combo class allows young students to try two wonderful dance disciplines. The class is approximately half ballet and half tap, though an instructor may choose to focus more on one. Level I performs ballet in the recital while level 2 performs tap in the recital.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT (2-4 years old) - An introduction to basic ballet movements and music that uses props, bubbles, songs, and games to keep children's attention. Basic tumbling and flexibility skills are also taught.
BALLET (Classical) – The foundation for all dance forms. Positions offers ballet levels I, II, III, IV, & V as well as Teen Ballet. Focus on classical training, proper body alignment and ballet terminology. We utilize the American Ballet Theater’s National Training Curriculum. Students are placed based on age and ability level. Levels IV and V are teacher recommendation only.
LEAPS & TURNS – This class focuses on strengthening technique, specifically a variety of turns and leaps. This is NOT a recital performance class but rather a means for a dancer to improve balance, alignment and technique. Students must be registered in at least one additional technique class per week (suggested: ballet or jazz). A required class for students on the Senior Competition Team.
BALLET ENRICHMENT – Program developed for students who have an additional interest in ballet with an emphasis on performance, dance appreciation and talent enhancement. Entry into class is by teacher recommendation and audition only. This class works on an original children's ballet in the spring, which is performed locally each year.
POINTE – Teacher recommendation ONLY. Students will strengthen and develop the muscle groups needed to support the body en Pointe while focusing on proper ballet technique. Students are required to be in at least one additional ballet class in order to participate in Pointe classes.
MODERN – An expressive form of dance. Based on the philosophies of Graham, Horton, Hawkins and Brown techniques. Classes are designed to encourage a strong foundation in this dance form with an emphasis on individual expression.
CONTEMPORARY/LYRICAL – This class consists of training the body as an instrument of artistic expression. This may combine the techniques of modern dance, ballet and jazz and is usually performed to slow tempo music. Students will learn to feel the choreography rather than just executing movement.
JAZZ – This class explores traditional, Broadway, and contemporary styles of jazz in a fun, energetic atmosphere. The class warms up and isolates muscles and emphasizes balance, strength, rhythm, and free expressive movement. Classes include center floor progressions and floor work.
HIP HOP—Combines new hip-hop and jazz technique from the latest music videos. Classes may involve some tumbling. A high energy class that includes a variety of hip hop techniques, including freestyle, house, and street moves.
TAP – Tap emphasizes rhythm coordination and musicality. Classes include exercises, barre, center techniques, across the floor progressions, dance combinations/routines. A vibrant way for students to develop strong musical sounds.
BROADWAY BOUND MUSICAL THEATER – A theater class that integrates dancing, singing, and acting. Weekly focus on a different dance or theater genre as well as age appropriate vocal and acting skills. This class works on a spring musical, which is performed locally each year.
TAP/IRISH COMBO - This class features half soft shoe Irish Step movement and half tap dancing. A great way for young dancers to try out two wonderful dance disciplines.
DANCE ABILITIES (SPECIAL NEEDS) – A jazz and creative movement class specially designed for the child with special needs. The class is taught by a NYS certified teacher and is tailored to students' individual needs. This class allows the child with special needs to express him or herself freely and creatively while still teaching dance disciplines. Students participate in our annual recital and some of our local shows, too.
ACRO – Encourages coordination, spatial awareness, and fine and gross motor skills. As students progress through each level, they will increase their strength and flexibility and learn a variety of skills: forward and back rolls, cartwheels, handstands, headstands, dive rolls, chin stands, front and back walkovers, round offs, front and back handsprings, and more.
